I'm here!! but, it is taking me a while. I don't like the dark background and the white writing! And I am a bit thick!! When I went into the old site I knew what topics were current. Am finding this a little difficult to negotiate but, that is me as I hate change!! Now I think I cop it thee is a red notification and I'll go to that. I like the yellow for the Board Index etc.
Hi Rocker,

I'm Matty and I'm helping Strum with this online chat forum.

Thank you for your comments such feedback is very important as it will help us change and improve this forum.

Just to give you some more background: This forum was running on an old version of phpBB so we updated it to the latest version of phpBB, it was important to do this as the old outdated version could be vulnerable to hacking/malware etc.

The old version was using functionality which is no longer available or viable to use on the latest version of phpBB however we are looking for new alternatives and hope to upgrade this forum over the coming days/weeks.

Re: "I don't like the dark background and the white writing!" - The 'style' (eg: the look and feel) of this online forum can be easily changed and over the next while we will be looking to change the colours, font sizes, navigation links etc based on overall feedback from yourself and anyone else who uses this forum.

Re: "When I went into the old site I knew what topics were current" - Yes this is something that is missing on the new version of the forum (previously there was a 'portal page') but rest assured that we are looking to restore this general overview. For the moment you may wish to use the 'Quick Links' (top left just below the banner image of Dún Laoghaire) and select 'Unread Posts'.

Rocker thanks and please keep posting comments and suggestions as we update and improve this online forum as all feedback is most welcome.

Great work Matty.

Dont mind them whingers :D I love change!

By the way, a handy way to cut directly to new posts is to save a shortcut on your device that links to this -
search.php?search_id=unreadposts

Thanks for your feedback Matty and Strum and thanks for all your great technical work. I agree with Rocker on the dark background and white font, I like the opposite. Also the old site whenever I logged on showed me a list of new posts and unread posts. I realise it is a work in progress and wish you all the very best in the fine tuning process.

Like Rocker, I found it difficult to see current/unread topics otherwise I am getting used to it. Sure like all of us it is under development!

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update on recent changes to the forums:

1) Added an announcement section below the header, currently says " Please note that this site is under development...blah, blah, blah", if you hover your mouse over it you can close this message if it becomes annoying.

2) The forum sections are now collapsible - in the top right of each section you will see a '-' sign, if you click on that the forum section will minimise (this is useful for people viewing on mobile phones).

3) Currently tweaking the overall look and feel of the forums, if you see an icon with a Red Dot it means it is something you haven't read yet.

4) Have also added that very annoying "This board uses cookies.." message as well as Privacy Policy, Terms and other fun legal stuff! I know nobody wants to read this but we need to make this forum GDPR compliant.

5) You can now embed more media into your posts when using the 'Full Editor and Preview' - this allows video and audio content from lots of 3rd-party sites to be embedded in forum posts and PMs, using a [media] BBCode, or from simply posting a supported URL in plain text.

6) Add a 'Forum Rules' page in the main nav bar, this is very basic and subject to change.

We are also testing other functionality that hasn't been rolled out yet but when it is we'll let ye know.

Also thanks for the feedback and apologises for not responding to any PMs/Posts :( .

If you notice any bugs or have any feedback/comments regarding this site please feel free to share or PM.

Thanks,

Matty

Thanks Matty. I'm a bit slow but, it is good to have this to refer to when I am stuck. Loving the new look and I love your "signature"!

So folks, how are you getting on with the functions etc?
Will I put a photo on the page or is it a bit intrusive, I left the option to close it if you like, little X, top right. It''ll disappear until you log in again?
I liked the banner text on the left but centered works better for phones.
Any suggestions, changes etc please let us know thanks. thumbright

I'm sure we'll all get the hang of it soon. Meanwhile it's great to see so much effort being put into the site for our enjoyment. Great stuff.

Cheers Denis, all good, saved it. Too many memories here to lose into cyberspace.

Pass it on folks and let's find new members. There are a lot of interesting contributors on local pages (George is going to run out of photos haha) on farcebook, so what can we do to appeal to them to register here?

I'm going to send out a mass email reminder to all registered users who don't post. so please ignore if you get that email. Hopefully I'll be busy with members who can't remember passwords etc, here's hoping, if not I'm afraid the member count will go down considerably if I delete a lot.
What are you're thoughts on that?

Please don't delete non posting members. I know we only have about 200 registered but, any less would make potential subscribers shy away!!

But maybe they'll feel sorry for us if we have only a few. :(

Very impressed with the way the new board presents on Android phone!
Perfect for a quick read. But I'll stick with the Desktop for posting.

One little feature would be fatastic. I know theres a little menu up top that includes Unread Posts, but I'd love it if there was a button or link on permanent display.

Good idea. Best I can do at the moment is a 'Thanks for the post' button, if I find a specific 'Like' a post function I'll add it in and remove the 'Thanks' function.

Hi Micheál,

I have added a new section called 'Recent (unread) Topics' to the top of the index/homepage, this will list the top five topics which are unread. You can view more by clicking on the page numbers in the top right of the section. See if this works for you.

Have also added in a link to the unread posts, only signed in users can see this link.
