Phoned an old Dúnlaoghairelite last night and her recollection of the Ross's Hotel is that it had bay windows on the Mellifont Ave side. Her recollection is that they were on the second floor but as a young child she could have been mistaken about the floor. well that "house" with the bay window could have been part of the hotel. she has clear recollection of sitting in a bay window looking sidewards to the sea.

My wedding reception was held in Ross's Hotel in the mid 1960's the manager
at the time was Vincent Harte. This was a great hotel and was very much a
going concern when the owners sold it for redevelopment.
Fantastic photo Strum, I am not convinced that is a boy, it could be a small
woman.

Exactly what I thought first Sinead until I enlarged it. Have a look with a magnifing glass. Schoolboy with a retangular lunchbox, College cap and looks like a bowtie or maybe just a big shirt collar, and I remember the original wall just like that, "modified" in the 80's' I think?
You can also see he has polio braces on both legs. That's sad to think that he had to pose for a photo...

That is a great postcard Strum. Very bare without trees and so few houses and farmland only. I'll have to get a stronger magnifying glass...

Must look again but is that the wall at Dalkey Quarry?

So the photo would be taken from the top of the quarry somewhere?

Cheers, I hadn't seen that one before. Taken from The Royal Marine I suppose. I found it on an American site.
There must be many thousands of photos are out there that tourists have taken while visiting the town over the years.

No comment on the latest portal pic? I think it's a great photo. I see a bloke dragging a giant goat on a trampoline over to his cart. :?:

Lovely photo !

Just a bloke crossing the road. I think the "dog" is a photo flaw.
Horse and trap, wonder what that was? Milkman, coal, scrap, taxi?

Amazing they had recycling wheelie bins back then. :D
