These are perfect examples of why I think the English language is bonkers and very difficult to learn as a second language by an adult especially. As the book Eats Shoots and Leaves explains the punctuation placement changes the whole meaning of sentences. But I guess it's here to stay so whatever will be will be. dontknow

I overheard the following on the Luas, the Red Line on which all life exists  you could even have to travel with a horse ! The day in question I was travelling into the City, sitting opposite me were two Asian students, girls, maybe Japanese and had Enlish Language text books, a group of kids with an adult got on the tram and were standing around when the adult announced in a very Dublin accent, " Now youse use the used towels youse used yesterday " the students were visibly bemused

If you are reclining with someone....on the beach or wherever....and they say
"I'm lying" or "I'm lieing" it can be hugely misleading....see what I mean?
Ok, I'm stretching it a bit here, I know

I love mixed up meanings, sentences etc......malapropism is it?....yes bach :D
Some examples...
I was in a car once when someone commented:
" I know this road like a house on fire..."

In a Supermarket I once worked in as a student an announcer, over the PA system in the whole store, once said...
" Greetings Turkeys, your Christmas customers are now available

That was many moons ago, as the crow flies."

My sister's girlfriend claimed her boyfriend "took her for granite

While discussing programming with a friend, he mentioned that a common typo would cause the program to act "erotically".
Must be an interesting program!

I worked with several lads over the years who almost got things right, for example, the Liffey smell was a big talking point at one stage some years ago my colleague said out loud " Jayzus the river is full of floatin' affluence " ! Another chap announced that on the way back from a Sunday trip to Brittas Bay that the traffic was so heavy that " there was a Garda converting the traffic at the Presbyterian crossing in Shankill " !! just a couple of many, can't wait for the Barneyisms

One of our neighbours was in chatting one day, when the subject turned to hairdressing costs ...... she gleefully announced that the local hairdresser was doing blow jobs for €20
