Marylen,

You have just brought my attention to Sinead's photo. It is so good and I'm sure anyone who is in it would love to see it.How about if we ask Strum if we could put a copy of it in say Hicks window and ask for anyone who recognises anyone to call in and identify the person in the picture and we can get all the names.

The byeproduct of this would be
1. lots of people would look in Hick's window and maybe buy womething.
2. People would stop and chat to each other.
3. We would get all the girls named.

I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

Marylen:

I believe the photo was taken in or around 1948/9. It was taken in the inner yard of the Dominican Convent. In the photo are Pat & Kay Mulhall, then of Northumberland Avenue, Treasa Kavanagh of Corrig Castle Terrace, a girl by the name of Groves can't remember her first name, Moran from Mary's Street, Nellie Heffernan, Dominick Street etc.

I have no problem with the photo being posted in any shop in Dun Laoghaire.

It is now called Northumberland Park. The old buildings were knocked down in the 60's and new houses were built. Somewhere on the site I gave the names of some of those who lived in the old houses when I was growing up. I think most of the families were housed in Sallynoggin.

Thanks Sinead. I guessed it was there. I knew Sergeant Dunphy and his family when I was growing up.

This damaged photo is of high babies in the Dominican Convent in and around 1934. My Mam is the little girl with the black curly hair in the third row back and number nine counting from the left. She is Maureen O'Toole from Clarence Street, later Cross Avenue. Maybe, some of you can spot your mothers or grandmothers.

GerryT
Thanks for the great photo. Now that is the way I remember the early classes in the Dominican in the 1940's - at least 60 children and one nun kept everyone occupied.

Gerry,
Excellent photo and so sharp.

Your mother kept the photo in great condition.

Agree with Denis - it would be absolutely brilliant if she could give some names of her classmates.

Would also love to hear some of her stories.

Mam says Mary Cromie was too young to be in the photo. Mam's eyesight is not good but names of girls she remembers in the photo include Doreen Merrigan , Rosie Darcy, Breda Cassidy, Phyllis McDonald, Pauline Clack(Mrs. White) , Josie Whelan, Bubbles Byrne (Mrs. Gaspara), Reesie Timlan, Phyllis Kelly(Mrs. Jackson) and May Costello.

Thanks

Sinead,
Mam (Maureen) says Celine Humphries was in her class. She does not think Rosie was in her class in primary school but they were in the Tech together and were great friends.

Your Mam has a great memory, Celine died some years ago but Rosie is very much alive and kicking.
I see her from time to time in Dun Laoghaire, she is very involved in a lot of things in the town.
Will you thank your Mam for giving us this gem.

It was a lovely surprise to see my gran aunt Doreen Merrigan mentioned. I cant pick her out, & my mam Kittys eyes arent that good either. Doreen died young , she didnt have children Although my mam says she was mother to many.(feeding & clothing)

Jaytee, I asked my mam about Doreen and she said that she is the fair haired girl sitting beside her in the photo. So, she is the 8th. in from the left , third row back. She also remembers Stella Kelly (Mary Street) is in the photo.
