Carlise PierI

Post by Misti » Sun Oct 25, 2009 4:02 pm

I got a letter in the post the day from Mr Ciaran Cuffe saying that Th Dun Laoghire Harbour Company has demolished the old Carlise Pier...While no-one will miss the loss of the old 1960 building within it was the intact 1950 year old railway station that has now been demolished.
He goes on to say that he has refered th matter to Bord Pleanala as he thinks th demolishon is illegal. And that the Harbour Company plan to build a surface carpark on the site.
I'll go down tomorrow to take a look. :-(

I might be down there because I would like a shot of it from the end,
although if it's going to be a carpark, that won't be a problem in the near future.

A Car Park would be a tragedy. Lets make sure that doesn't happen. It would make a lovely viewing area and I'd settle for a few benches and maybe a place nearby to buy an ice cream.

I think it would be a great spot for the guillotine - come the revolution. There would also be a large demand for ice cream!!!

A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain.

Great idea. Guillotines would draw big crowds, big crowds love ice cream. Think I'll buy an ice cream van, have an name an all, "Killer Ice",sure you couldn't go wrong money for old rope!

Seriously no one should allow a car park on the pier!

I've an idea (just took me Berocco tablet) why dont we create a public execution area there. We mentioned the Guillotine, plenty of Rope down there and it's just made for Walking the Plank, the traditional maritime punishment. We could have a Grand Opening and invite George Bush(great experience on Capital Punishment in Texas) and Tony Blair. I know their fee would be about a $million. I heard they relate their fee to the number of Men, Women and Children whose deaths they are responsible for in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Public Executions would attract huge crowds so it would generate employment. I'd have me Ice Cream van and we'd let Snowhite have one too she could call it Mrs Whippy :D The Kellykid could look after all the Boats( has great family experience),Jordo would be the historian, Stargazer would look after the pets, Farmboy would be the Photographer,Snowy could help with the photos when she's finished with the whipping,Strum and Grammer would be the wandering minstrels similar to the the banjo players in the film Cat Ballou :D :D. and Harjo can publish the book, there would be jobs fo everyone in the audience. Sure we could make a bomb (now there's a thought)
Again on a serious note lets not underestimate the lobbying that is going to come from vested interests down there. Too many public areas have been lost down there.
