The Lords of the Soil

Post by Rocker » Tue Aug 19, 2014 8:38 am

There is an interesting topic arising on the Site thread. There must be a huge amount of stories about the Lords of the soil so hope Strum doesn't mind me opening a topic and we will see what progresses.

Here are some snippets about De Vesci Estate ... sp?id=2756

St Josephs Senior Football Club play on Tivoli Terrace South beside the old Bosco and the pitch / land is part of the De Vesci Estate. It is seemingly held in trust through the Dept of Education and zoned recreational. St Joes are long term sitting tennants and would have a huge say in any attempts to develop the land, which has been targeted / coveted by many groups over the years.

Mr. Kelly from Stoneview was one of the painters in The
Lords of the Soil, he always did a great job on our hall
door, it was grained, you should have seen the work
that went into painting it. It was painted cream, then
a gold sort of colour went on top and combs had to be
used on this before it dried, when dry the whole door
was then varnished. I think it was done every two years.
Mr. Darcy did plumbing and roofing.
