Not one for bragging or boasting -

But I have just written this war song -think it's the best I have ever done-I'm kinda proud of it.
======================================================
Old Jim
Now old Jim sits down by the harbour wall
He stares out to sea
No one knows what’s in his mind -He never shared his memories
================
But my mother told me many years ago
That old Jim fought in the war to end all wars
There’d be no wars anymore
Now Jim was just a boy of 17-But in a bar one night
A Seargent McGreer filled them up with beer
Signed them up and packed them off to fight
=========chorus=
To a foreign country they were shipped
They did’nt even know it’s name
But straight into battle -They were slaughtered like cattle
Young boys and men untrained
Chorus
Now old Jim sits by the harbour wall still stares out to sea
Knowing he was the only one to survive -From his group of 53
Ch.
Now old Jim came home –spent his life alone
Never had a wife or family
People said he was a bit mad
Which is quite said --cos he fought to secure their liberty
Ch.
Now old Jim still sits by the harbour wall still staring out to sea
Altho’ he’s made of stone and stands all alone
He should be a reminder of the futility of war to you and me

That's a goodie Tom, you're perfectly entitled to be proud of it.
I can hear the late great Hoyt Axton singin' that in my inner ear.
Just keep on keepin' on thumleft thumleft thumleft

Grammer,

Great one. Pulling at my heart strings. How must my grandad for one have felt to have made it back to DúnLaoghaire to learn that his brother Edward was buried in Flanders and never to know where his brother William lay...every house in the Borough was touched by that Great War scry scry

The old Elvis song =========Return to sender
new words by Claire F thanks Claire-
I got a package from the postman
He brought it special D
He gave the same to all my neighbours
and for once, we all agreed
We're writing on it

Return to sender
Address unknown
I don't want no contract
You're in the wrong zone
don't want to quarrel
no time for that...
I'm gettin' leaner while
the fat cats are getting fat...

So I dropped it in the mailbox
Along with all the rest
And written bold in big black letters...
Just in case they think I jest
I wrote upon it...

Return to sender
Address unknown
My PPS number
is mine alone
I ain't signing nothing
It'll be jailhouse rock for me
But I won't be complaining
because then my water will be free.......

I agree, very clever hats off to you and Claire but it won't stop me paying the tax, and as I said before, that's what it is.

Great stuff Grammer ! Enjoyed that, I went up Chucky Boylan's Lane many times and after dark it would frighten the life out of ya !! your lyrics reminded me so much of those nights   worst fright was what we thought was the black dog coming for us, we could hear breathing and snorting, we headed to the nearest tree to hide, then it passed by  it was a Badger babbby babbby babbby
