Showbands etc
my one memory of Dickie Rock was one Saturday night he was in the audience of the late late and Gaybo pointed him out to the audience for a how do you do bow and all that, Dickie went to salute the camera but poked himself in the eye instead. I felt bad for him but it was hilarious too.
Simplicity is the key

Jhesus, didn't realise he was of the age to be having hip replacements...... something my dad's prob got to have soon. mmmm, that's the problem with the voice, same thing happened to a friend of mine, only able to pop in and out now and again these days (so to speak LOL) but it's good to see him when he does.
Hope you have a great Chrissie mate.

Jeez Just heard Joe Dolan died today, so sad he had been unwell for awhile and had just cancelled all his Tour Dates, seemingly he took bad yesterday afternoon and passed away in hospital today. What a Showman he was, has been entertaining for the last 40yrs. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in Peace.

Life isn't tied with a Bow, But it's still a Gift.

Joe Dolan ya boya
I think he was a culchie, Mullingar, but I think he lived on Foxrock / Cabinteely. I seen him about when I was home this year, remember from the State in Kilburn and Camden Town irish Club, 1960s..good band.
Make me an Island...or something.. Groups were our scene... even in London..
I remember turning up to a dance in the Kings at Fulham Broadway with my then girlfriend and they would not let her in 'cos she wore a trouser suit and not a dress, Eilenne Reid & the Cadets wre playing, and guess what, she wore trousers too... NEVER DID AN IRISH DANCE IN THE UK EVER AGAIN....Culchieism was like the Taleban in those days 1968-70... the Culchies hated the Jackeens in London then, as they thought we had the better jobs... AND INDEED WE DID... we simply mixed with the UK kids... thats all they would not, distrusted the Brits !!!!

Yes Joe did live in Foxrock, Enviro Jeez I never knew that till I read it in the Papers
I always though he lived in Mullingar. He was a fantastic showman as they alway's said "There's no Show like a Joe Show"
And Tom Jones wasnt the only one to have ladies undies thrown at him, women would bring them by the bag full to Joe's show's....

Farmboy,
It must be all those women and the gargle taking its toll !!!!
Stick to Chedhli Bands... most look over 70 !
Do you know I have only ever seen one showband, 'The Skyrockets' from Enniskillen, in August 1963 in a ballroom in Carrick on Shannon. I was all of fifteen then and visiting a penfriend in Drumshanbo....
Never took to the showbands, I was a group man.... I think it was the Dub v. Culchie thing in those days

Ha Ha Enviro, maybe you,re right about the ceile thing!
A mate of mine worked in a Convent with the nuns and I was called in to help him with a job. I met several nuns and every time he,d ask me how old I thought they were. I was always about 10/15 years out. He maintained if they looked 60 they were probably 70 or more and if they looked 70 they were probably in their 80,s. Theres your answer, join a nunnery and stay looking young!
