Johndle,

Would I be right in thinking that Leo Leonard was Clerk of the Church in Glasthule at one time?

The Leonard family appear on both census' in Findlater Street in 1901 and in 1911 on Clarence Street with 5 year old Leo maiking his first appearance. Leo Leonard also appears in the 1953 census substitute back in Findlater Street. The minute I read your post I pictured a not so tall white haired man for some reason Johndle!!!

you could be right there skins -probably you are

its possible that the lady Mary Duffin could have been Leo Leonards future wife-

Leo Leonard played for Edenville in the late 1920 and early thirties .there was 2 Leonard's that played for Edenville not sure if they were brothers one was Dom who I think was a goalkeeper who may have become a priest or a Brother he also played with Blackrock Hospital and the other was Leo Leonard who I think played in the forward line based on what you posted Dom was older than Leo but I would have to check notes I have .
Leo played with Edenville until they went out of senior football around 1935 hope its the same person

JD
Have you queried the 1901 or 1911 Census for this address, you just might find it.

Crofton Road/Roby Place/Quay Road/Atwools Court Kingstown Enumerators File 96

West Pier/Seaview Terrace Kingstown Enumerators File 95

Old Dunleary Kingstown Enumerators File 97

I would deduce that Atwools Court was somewhere along or behind Crofton Road. The entry appears on the same Enumeratos File (96) as Crofton Road, Roby Place, Connaught Place. There are only three residences listed in the court. My guess is that it was near or on Kelly's Avenue.
Interestingly, this is the same file that lists all of the crews on the ships in the Harbour on the night of the Census.

JohnD

Is this by any chance the turn off Crofton Road after Kelly's Avenue and heading towards Clarance Street? In the 1950's there was 3/4 houses up there to the right and I think an old man by the name of Maher lived in one of them, he was related to Ronnie Drew.

Hi Im new to the site and have just came across this post, Leo Leonard was my granddad, my mothers father, he was the clerk at the Church in Glasthule and was married to Bridget Dowling, they moved to O Donnell Gardens. He did have a brother called Dominic who became a monk in Mellifont Abbey and as mentioned they both played football.

Hi Debslaw. Can't tell you much about Leo except that I remember him well. I spent a lot of time a few doors up in O'Donnell Gardens. Probably remember because he was a good bloke. hellllo hellllo hellllo

I know Jemser 6 years later, better late than never though lol. That's lovely to hear from someone who remembers him Bugrock, my mother always said he was a lovely man, maybe you recall my mother she was Winnie Leonard, from looking at your profile you would have been of similar age.
