I have posted under the gathering about Bratacha 2013 the Festival of Flags and Emblems in Dún Laoghaire May 9th, 10th,11th. Just to let you know that the main Exhibition will be in the Maritime Museum opening on the evening of 9th May and during normal opening hours on 10th and 11th. It is a great venue for the exhibition. Come along and enjoy.

Don't forget there are deals with combined entry to the Shackleton Endurance Exhibition at the old ferryport Family €18, Adult €8 and child €5.

Joe Duffy had a fellow on the other day and he was discussing a tapestry that was prepared for the I.T.G.W.U 1913 lock out celebrations..they have to move it from it's present location at Collins Barracks and he was looking for new homes to keep it on public view...two sections are gone to the Abbey Theatre for display and the Capuchines said they would take two panels...I was thinking what about the Maritime Museum when I heard that they hope to take two sections. That will be a great exhibit.

I came across this today, it's probably a photo from the Museum?


Specification of the organ in the former Mariners' Church (now National Maritime Museum), Dún Laoghaire. Sadly, after years of decay, it was scrapped some years ago. As you can see, it was the largest organ in the town or south county, having been installed in 1901 and used constantly until the church closed in the early 70's.

Some of those speakers are spell binding. Cormac lowth knows so much Maritime history. Have been dying to meet David Snook who has a most interesting Merchant Seamen website. Our own Gulliver is giving a talk. All sound very interesting. Must get out my diary as I miss most things cause I haven't got the dates recorded.

A chance encounter yesterday with a man with maritime connection led us to chat about the Maritime Museum and he told me that the museum is a venue for Civil Marriage Ceremonies. I looked it up this morning on their website and it looks just great...

How did that wedding go Denis??...just noticed there is a wedding on there tomorrow.

I hear there is a buzz in the Maritime Museum with a Leinster exhibition. I must get down to visit. William Maher's family (he was a stoker on the Leinster) have donated the silver watch he received for saving a Ms Topping. I understand Mr Mcmanus in the town repaired it and got it working again.

I missed a Wedding there while I was in Hospital, but from the Photo's I seen after it looked absolutely amazing, and the reception was in The Royal Marine which was a short stroll for all the guests. I was raging I missed it, so Dennis hope your daughters was amazing there are so many people using it now as a Wedding Venue.

Been away from the site for a bit,for some reason the email prompts ceased and I just got involved with other matters. Going back to the Mariners Church as a wedding venue my daughter thought it was great and I have to say so did I. It was a humanist ceremony in what was once a church, which is a little ironic but there you go, a clear sign of how Ireland has changed in recent years. The wedding reception was in the Haddington House,which like the Marine Hotel is just yards away. It was a real sunny day and the wedding guests were able to enjoy a drink on the lawn of the hotel with the beautiful vista of the East Pier and Scotsman's Bay. A real good day. It's a year on since the wedding and another male has been added to the clan of this old slaphappy grandpappy.

Congrats Grandad Denis, my grandchildren are all big and bold not small and cuddly like yours.
My granddaughter is about to graduate in Engineering and her younger brother is just about to
start in the same field. Then one in Secondary and one in 6th in Primary.
I don't feel old enough for this to be the case but there you are.

Just for the record Sinéad one of the grandchildren is going to University this year, another is in Secondary school the others are in Primary school and to try and cuddle them would not be welcomed, but it doesn't stop me trying. The new one is a different story, cuddles galore.
