Walker's Court

Post by Derrindaffderg » Wed Jan 29, 2014 2:54 pm

A chairde - Does anyone know where Walker's Court was situated as per the below from the 1911 census. I have a theory it was in and around Wellington Street. There are only 3 dwellings listed.

You'll find most of the courts listed here http://www.dunlaoghairecounty.ie/viewto ... 00#p118705 but Walkers is not on the list.

The Corr family lived in George's Place at the bottom of Wellington
Street in the 1940's, 50's and 60's

A very long shot Derrindaffderg

Many of these Courts, as Gulliver has often pointed out, were situated in the "back yards" of larger street-fronting premises. converted stables, perhaps?

I notice , in Griffith Valuation, that courts are listed and the landlord was, in many instance someone of the same name (surprise, surprise)
So its possible that the landlord lived in the main house, and the court to the rere was named after him.

In which case, if you can find a street-fronting Walker family, they might have a Court, named in their 'honour', tucked in behind. So how abount some one like this ?

There are other Walkers - I just picked one.
