Micheál,

That old shot is amazing. It looks like the post office wasn't even built by then. I used to know every shop in the town but, my memory is fading. This is a great idea to do the then and now shots. It really is a bit of history that we forget.Bravo.

Terrific shots there Micheál, particularly the last one. For me it shows on the left hand side of the modern photo, an almost unchanged streetscape. This is illustrated by the chimney tops being virtually identical in appearance and position. Contrasted on the opposite side of the street by the almost completely different modern view.

Great Michael, The first photo of Seapoint is amazing, I posted it here a good while ago but alas when we lost some postings that was one of them. :(

The old trampoles show up very clearly in the Dalkey picture
They obviously have been removed at some time. It's good to see that there are quite a few between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey. I would like to see a preservation order on them.

Interesting to see that the tramline proceeds down through the town. I had assumed that it ended at the tramshed. The 1908 Ordnance Survey is inconclusive as to how far it goes.

I totally agree Gulliver. They have sooooo much history that will be forgotten if they are not kept.

Another great one Micheal. ;)

Ive seen a picture of a teminus somewhere. It seemed to me to be within sight of the sea and I'm thinking it might have been Sorrento Road near junction for Dillons Park.

I'll try to locate it and give it the N&T treatment

Welcome to the site Chuffed. I'd guess early 1900's. I'm only guessing because of the quality of the photo though. It could well be much earlier. :?:

The initials WL are a giveaway. This is from the Lawerence Collection, Item No D719 and is dated as 1890

There we were tonight after dinner sitting and chatting about this site. We discussed the Dalkey Tram and possible terminus then someone said it was opposite Maxwell's chemist and I remembered Gulliver putting up a photo of Maxwells pharmacy on the Photos of Dalkey thread and sure enough there it was posted on 6 December 2012. We looked at the OSI maps and it shows the tram tracks stopping there at that corner
tram terminus.

So that old Dalkey photo Micheál posted above shows the tram at the terminus !

Florrie Barrett Linton gave a nice report on the Dalkey archives site,
