Big event in Shankill next week

IRISH people are set to fall in LOVE-all with blind tennis when the World Championships are held here for the first time next week.
Up to 60 players will descend on Shankill Tennis Club in South County Dublin for the DLR TAKEI Blind Tennis World Championships from April 26 to 30.

BLIND tennis was created by Mr Miyoshi Takei in Japan in 1984.
The blind student wanted to try the sport, so he and his physical education teacher tried to adapt it for his abilities.
It’s played on a normal court and the players locate the ball by the sound made by a bell inside it.
They are allowed either two or three bounces depending on their level of vision.
Every player is divided into Paralympic sight classes – from B1, for those with no vision, to B3, for those with a less severe visual impairment.
Currently, Blind Tennis is played in more than 30 countries on five continents.
It’s hoped the game will grow in popularity and eventually meet the requirements to become a Paralympic Sport.

Well done Shankill.

   all the players are white ..... in todays game, there are no all white teams that I can think of..... ooooh ahh hellllo

In other news, well done Ingurland ... Columbia were not exactly gentlemen, especially when England were awarded a penalty and one of their team tried to dig up the penalty spot. I really didn't care who won, but tonight's game was a spoiler from start to finish and as I watched it surrounded by my Allez les Blue friends in the Vendee... I realized our neighbours are about as popular as a fart in a space suit.

Well that's two hours I wont get back !!!

The quicker Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane go the better .... bereft of ideas and stuck in an outdated style of play. Huff n Puff football is no longer acceptable and its clear that the lads are lost.

Lets hope the egg chasers can step up on Saturday and roll over the all blacks.

Sadly the FAI have failed to develop since 1994, when the game was at its peak in the country and every kid wanted to play. Instead of putting their profits into developing the next generation of players, they looked after number one. The appointment of John Delaney in 2005 was classic FAI, bringing in one of their own as his Dad Joe was an ex-treasurer of the association. The proof of how the FAI operates was their pay off for allowing Henry's hand ball go unchallenged .... all they want is money, success is dangerous as it would raise expectations and they certainly dont want that. What other business CEO would get €360,000 per annum plus a car, a phone, health insurance with a hefty pension based on year on year failures and be allowed to go out canvassing with the likes of Alan 'AK47' Kelly !!!!... its a joke of an organisation.

Delaney needs to go with immediate effect and bring Martin and Roy with him, they are yesterdays men. There are enough accountants and office workers in the FAI to allow a proper football man become the CEO, I would look at someone like David O'Leary, a man who would put the interest of the game above himself. As for the Manager ..... Stephen Kenny* has Dundalk playing good football and I would have no hesitation in bringing him in with an experienced ex Premiership player such as Jon Walters (he speaks well and would quickly be able to deal with any egos that might challenge Kennys pedigree).

*after all, an ex-Rovers boss is doing well up North

I think you're bang on with Stephen Kenny, he's done a great job with Dundalk and funny enough he lets them play football, something that seems to be anathema to O'Neill/Keane.

Well lads you wish has been granted - Toss part of yours is still in place. How much of Soccer money is paid to Mr. Delaney for doing what exactly? I think Mr. Kenny might be to expensive because of the new deal with his current club, anyway, Merrion Square would just destroy him.

Is this site dominated by Soccer bods? Not a single mention of the great win the Rugby Team had on Saturday. The FAI should shadow what the Rugger Buggers are doing then Soccer just might start winning.

You're right Sinéad we are beginning to take our rugby team for granted. It was an historic and magnificent win, my next door neighbour thought her walls were going to collapse with all the shouting coming from our house.

It was a great win for the rugby lads and shows what can be achieved when an organisation puts performances above personal gain ..... but lets not forget it was a 'no so friendly' friendly and we need to repeat it under pressure in Japan, bring it on.

But the thing about NZ is - they never play "friendlies".

Please help me, someone, it is my understanding that when you resign you get paid up to the date of such resignation
plus any holiday pay due - am I wrong. If I am right then why are pundits talking about packages for the men who we are
told resigned. They should in fact be paying FAI for breach of contract.

Contract terminated "by mutual agreement", Sinéad.

So Mick Mc Carthy is the FAI's answer to our woes ...... oh dear

I like Mick, but his style / approach is very close to O'Neill's and we should know by now that parking the bus and hoping for a free kick or a corner is no longer good enough.

The only good thing I can see about this is that it will finish Delaney if it starts badly .... he will be hounded out.

Yes, bad move Toss, now I see we are getting Mac AND Stephen Kenny AND possibly Robbie Keane, Delaney trying to please everyone to cover his a**e, Kenny to take over in 2 years time. There's nothing Delaney won't do to keep his obscene salary
