Re: Black fox
Never even heard of a black fox until tonight, Stillorgan Boy. Googled it and it is very weird with the white tipped tail. Some sort of genetic flaw according to Google.
I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

The quick black fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Re: Black fox
A final year Environmental Sciences student at Trinity College is undertaking a research project on the distribution of foxes in South-West Dublin. When the data is collected it will be compared with data on human population, percentage green spaces, age of housing stock and other such parameters to give a better understanding of how foxes choose their habitats. This project is of particular relevance as urban fox distribution in Ireland has not been studied since 1994.
The study area for this project is south of the Liffey and west of the Green Luas line. This study will be carried out primarily through citizen science, and will depend on receiving sightings of foxes or fox dens from as many members of the public as possible.
Details of sightings can be sent directly via email to foxwatchdublin@gmail.ie or submitted to the Fox Watch Facebook page at Fox Watch Dublin.

I would consider around the Dun laoghaire area East of the green Luas line and therefore this survey would not apply to this area. That is not to say some of you could be West of the green Luas line but not me, I think.

I emailed them and asked them if they're interested in sightings here in De Noggin Jem. The guy in the Chipper around the corner was hand feeding them a while back. Not a bother to the Foxes with the Chipper full of people coming and going. They're getting braver and cheekier.

Re: Black fox
Was looking out the window one night recently at 4:30 am (no, I'm not creepy, I just work shift!) and within a space of ten minutes I saw five foxes out on the road....Unreal! It would stand to reason that with the amount of foxes out and about that there has to be a few black ones knocking around somewhere. Growing up in Stillorgan sighting a fox was rare, although there was a guy down the end of the road who had a pet fox for a while. I have never seen a black fox but I have heard say they bring very bad luck to those who spot them.

Re: Black fox
Had a family of foxes under an old shed in my garden last year - 5 cubs plus Ma & Da. When the shed was removed after they had left, the space under it was found to be only about 4 inches - and it was quite clean with no smells.

That's interesting Gulliver because there are a couple of families of Foxes behind Holy Child in Sallynoggin. During the Summer break the school has been dumping piles of old furniture to be skipped and I was rummaging through it one night with my Spaniel right beside me and I actually stepped on a Fox Cubs tail and it ran off, frightened the sht out of me haha. Thing is my Dog was right beside me and never smelled it or even sensed it and that Fox had stayed hidden even with us so close, remarkable. So that led me to thinking they somehow hide their scent?
I don't know how true this is, could be an Aesop tale even, but I read or heard years ago if a Fox has Fleas it grabs a sod of earth, swims out into water with the sod held high in it's mouth, all the fleas jump on to it and the Fox lets it go into the water, defleaed just like that.
Cute or sly as a Fox as they say.
