Re: What are you watching?
Looks good I have it recorded or as we used to say taped
I 'll watch it some evening when the tv's bad for choice ......most nights.

haha Toss, you wouldn't get away with that today....the midgets would be in uproar, and all the "equality for midgets" people. And he'd have to change his name from Short......Toss wrote:Pat Short at his very best ...... you have to watch till the end![]()

Wow....who knew ?!
Can you imagine having to make those wire frames all day every day for like ten years or more
I used to have a little rubber dolly ( don't go there Toss
) I wonder now where she was made ?
She used to squeak when she was squeezed , a bit like meself

Re: What are you watching?
We had the crolly dollies made in Donegal...wonder how they made them??
What caught my eye was the beauty of the workers and their nail polish and clean hands etc...I'd be covered in the stuff and paint if I was working there!!

Re: What are you watching?
I had a Crolly doll as well . I remember looking at her in the shops for weeks and weeks and then on Christmas morning
I saw the big box under the tree and I was terrified that it wouldn't be a Crolly doll . I had her for years .
Yes , I too was struck by how well groomed the women in that video were but I remember all my aunties being turned out
In the same fashion back in the 60s/70s . Women always wore makeup and had their hair up .
I couldn't imagine having to put on full makeup every day for work , too time consuming .

Re: What are you watching?
Factories were a great place for keeping people on their toes fashion wise. All those gorgeous girls and fellows working together!! I was always jealous of the girls in Bradmola across the road from our house and the lads in the shirt factory in Brookfield...wow, talk about the diet coke ads...on our doorstep. The sad dull, dressed in black lot who travel on the DART now to Grand Canal Docks and the I.F.S.C and they think they have made it. Much more singing, chat, friendship, laugh in the factories.

Have just watched a fantastic documentary on RTE 1 - How to defuse a Bomb: The
Project Children Story - very moving. It is amazing what the vision of one person
can do, particularly when they are not looking for glory or reward.

Well for my sins I was just watching Tommy Tiernan on RTE. Have to say he is very good doing interviews. He had Foster and Allen singing. I didn't know they were still on the go but, they were all right!!

Re: What are you watching?
Anyone watching the Revolution series on RTE?
It very interesting and I'm learning quite a bit since I'm of an age that saw my school history curriculum end at 1916. (And besides, I was never taught history by anyone in school nor encouraged to learn, but that's another story)
But here's the thing. I don't doubt for a moment that everything they show is accurate - backed up by contributions from eminent historians. But is it complete?
With the exception of some brief recorded comments from some former Black & Tans, I was amazed at how little was devoted to examining the views/reactions/rationale of the Ireland-based non-nationalist community or, for that matter analysing why the British Establishment responded in the way it did to various developments.
It seemed to me to be mostly a (reasoned) justification for those who favoured armed revolt - but without attempting to offer a balanced historical analysis from the perspective of all the stakeholders.

Re: What are you watching?
I have watched this production and think it is quite good but perhaps a little imbalanced. I have learned quite a lot from it, some of the academics giving their tuppence worth seem, to me, a little biased.
What became of the money raised in America and through the Irish Bonds has always been a source of wonder for me. It was not only Dev who went to America Fund Raising. I would love to have sight of the Sinn Fein Bank (I do mean the Bank and not just the Account) records for the period.
