Great photo of the Eagle house. Never remember a shop called the Eagle House or was it part of the pub?

Anyone know of Andy Vesey who managed The Eagle House in the sixties. Young Andy and I and another used to be good friends - great memories! Andy's sister was a beautiful person, shame we all grew up and went our separate ways. Wish those days were back.

Must've had too much tonight - feelin' maudlin.

I remember a guy called Noel Vesey who was a barman in the Thatch in the noggin would have been around late 60's early 70's.
Don't know any more about him or where he is now.

I remember Ken Vesey, he played in nets for St. Joseph'd Boys and a brother worked as a clerical worker in the Town Hall. They were Andy's sons.

Eugene Vesey retired from the council and lives in the first house after Power City and Noel Vesey retired from BD Pottery Road some years ago and lives somewhere locally.
That's all I know.

Love the Portal Picture Strum. McCulloughs was a great shop. Do any of you remember the fantastic
sale they had after the fire? My Mam bought lots of smoke damaged linen sheets, table cloths
and other items. The scrubbing board was out in no time getting the smell out of these items.

Good to see you back posting Sinead, an Aunt of mine did a lot of the alterations for Mc Culloughs back in the seventies and I think at one stage there was more of Mc C's material in her house than there was in the shop ! I used to look forward to receiving her b/day xmas presents as she would inevitably give me a treasured pair of branded jeans

When you posted the photo of McCullaghs I just couldn't remember where it was. I got the little man from Google to walk down the street and it is where part of Pennys is now!

Curiosity got the better of me and I wondered who were the McCullaghs!!

In the 1901 census a family of McCullagh lived at 84 Lower Georges Street a shop occupying 12 rooms. John McCullagh from Leitrim.

by the 1911 census they are in 83 lower Georges Street described as a warehouse with 28 rooms

Hey Strum, that is too melancholic!!

I haven't been out on the beach since the Storms but a neighbour tells me that a load of the beach was washed away. they were fierce pounding waves during storms. Erosion is hitting us....Oh should put this on the moan line!!

That is a fantastic image Strum. I would interpret it as illustrating the everlasting preponderance of nature over human materiality but also showing the saffron-like fragility of both. Maybe it shows how, we as humans, can and do, by our actions, negatively impact on that which sustains us.....which we can so obviously and so easily, take for granted.
