Re: BIRTHDAYS
A big thank you to all my friends on this site for their good wishes. I had a ball of a time for my birthday, daughter number 2 brought me to Iceland to celebrate, on 11th I was brought to a geizer, waterfall and thermal baths - I thought all my birthdays had come at once. I am still pinching myself to make sure it did happen. A fantastic place but you just could not afford to buy anything, not on my pension anyway. Fantastic experience to see it.

Re: BIRTHDAYS
Belated Birthday Wishes Sinead, my son was in Iceland a few weeks ago and got a Fine for being 3 miles over the limit .......... 550e on the spot.
He says he's seen it and will never go again so expensive for everything, they travelled quiet a bit while there trying to see as much as possible and ended up making up there own Breakfast/lunches to get them through. But they did say it was a Beautiful Place.

€550
How much does a meal in a restaurant cost ? Drink ? I was thinking of going on a visit but Holy God it sounds like I'll have to wait to win Euromillions

Re: BIRTHDAYS
If I remember rightly my son said 9/10 euro for a pint,35/40 euro a bottle of wine, 15 euro for Burger, 50 euro for a Steak, he said it was cheap to get there and that's where it stops.
Thank God its not on my list of places to see.

Well I have just crossed it off my list of must see places.....bye bye Iceland.

Re: BIRTHDAYS
Folks, don't cross it off the list, yes, it is very expensive but the sights are just amazing. I can't give costs as I didn't pay for anything. We had a serviced apartment which could sleep 4, from Dublin we brought, bread, smoked salmon, cheese and butter, in the local supermarket we bought, water, fruit juice, biscuits, rolls, mushrooms and eggs. These items covered breakfast, tea and lunch on day trips. We ate in fish restaurants and I don't think the charges were too high. We did not buy any alcohol, you can live without it for a few days.
You can check out the costs of trips on line. 1,000 Icelandic Kroner = €9.00. Where there is a charge for the loo it is about €2.50.
Iceland Air was a very roomy comfortable experience.
The pace of life there is slow, nothing moves fast. It is very grey, the sun was shining on our last day. Airport transfers are via the main bus station from where you take a mini bus to your residence, the reverse applies when you are going on tour. It is an efficient system.

Please dont give our money grabbers any ideas. Its bad enough having one of our Nigerian brothers shove his hand in your face after you wash your hands in some Dublin venues, but if the owners thought they could charge you twice for using the toilet ..... they would certainly try (lets not forget one of their main whinges when they put their prices up every six months is that its the "overheads" and that includes toilet facilities.

Re: BIRTHDAYS
I haven't been in Iceland since 1997 but it was a wonderful experience and not that expensive then. I wouldn't have missed it. Pity about the escalating prices but I think we will go back soon.

Re: BIRTHDAYS
We should all make a visit to Iceland because they deserve every penny! They showed the world that you can hold the bankers to account and actually put them in Jail for corrupt practices and all the while making sure the citizens didn’t loose their savings ! This could have been ireland ! Mor ya !

Re: BIRTHDAYS
Yeh Spud but you must agree that it's far easier to freeze things there than it is here
,although if we continue to have winters like we've just had we'll soon be the same. Of course you're right the people stood up to the world banks but we caved in and bailed them out.
