Re: Victoria Cove and Scotmans bay 1964
Ya know I could easily have been there when that photo was taken cos when I was a kid I worked the summer holidays collecting the tariffs for the deckchairs here. I think it was 6d for 4 hours(4 or 5 cent!) One day Bunny Carr of quicksilver fame was doing a live programme on the prom and he asked me to read out someones letter which I did. I raced all the way along the Metals to my grannys for lunch in Eden Villas full of excitement after being on the radio. Imagine my disappointment when I ran in and the gran had bbc radio turned on which I had forgotten that she always did. The mother listened to rte but she was also in the grans, my moment of fame nipped in the bud! Having said that, when I was cycling down my road later that day ,a few kids came running out to say they had heard me,that made me feel a bit better. ;-)
Thanks Hayla,
Top picture is the 'Pav' or Pavilion as it was known. Picture taken about 1910. It was burnt down in 1915. I am not sure when built but possibly 1907, Cambria might know
Second picture in Dun Laoghaire 3rd June this year. Brilliant weather. Seems strange to me a stranger seeing it pedestrianised.
third picture taken by me in 1964 with my first roll of colour film, bought in Liverpool when at the Aunts. Note the deckchairs etc
Last picture recovered and a favourite of Cambria and some of you
I used to love Cooks shop. They sold the Matchbox Series 1-75 cars and lorries there, loads of other goodies AND importantly Ned White did not stand outside like he did at Woolies ready to lift you just in case you pinched something. This picture is a 1953/4 postcard pre John Hinde and I think the police officer is "Jazzer Kelly" from the Noggin God Rest him The CIE bus outside is almost new and the 'ZL' licence plate would make it around then

The pictures of the peoples park were given to me,a long time ago by a friend who had a lot of different ones taken at the same time,so i dont know who actually took them. :???:If they could cause any hassle for the site please feel free to delete them,Strum.
